OpenAI Terminates Cursor Contract Following SpaceX Acquisition

OpenAI is winding down its model-supply contract with Cursor after the AI coding assistant was acquired by SpaceX. This is a significant industry development: Cursor had become one of the most widely adopted AI coding tools among engineers, and losing access to OpenAI models will force a major architecture shift. The move signals OpenAI's willingness to cut off API access to competitors owned by strategically misaligned entities.

Modality Maturity Index: A New Benchmark for Omni-Modal LLMs

Researchers introduce the Modality Maturity Index (MMI), a benchmark targeting true omni-model evaluation across five modalities — text, image, audio, video, and document — including combinations of up to three modalities simultaneously in both inputs and outputs. The 893-question dataset is designed to expose gaps in models marketed as omni systems but evaluated only on bimodal tasks. This fills a real hole in the evaluation landscape as labs ship increasingly multimodal frontier models.
